In the spring of 2009, 64-year-old Mary Ann Tautkus, a resident of Eben Junction, Michigan, vanished under puzzling circumstances. Her husband reported to the Michigan State Police on August 31, 2009, that he had not seen his wife since early May of that year. According to his account, he drove her to St. Ignace, Michigan, where she was scheduled to meet an unidentified friend. The two women reportedly planned to travel together to the Detroit area for a visit. Mary, who also went by the name Mary Ann Havens, was last seen wearing a light blue pullover shirt with matching light blue pants and her prescription eyeglasses. She has not been seen or heard from since that day in May. The four-month gap between when she was last seen and when she was reported missing has been a concerning element of the case. Mary Tautkus is described as a Caucasian female with gray hair and blue eyes, standing between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, and weighing between 145 and 200 pounds. After retiring from a career at General Motors, she had relocated to the quiet community of Eben Junction in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. There, she lived a seemingly peaceful life, enjoying baking and spending time with her dog, Doodle, at her home. The mother of a son and a daughter, her sudden and silent disappearance was out of character and left her loved ones without answers. The investigation into Mary Tautkus's disappearance was launched by the Michigan State Police from the Munising Post. As the months wore on with no sign of Mary, the case grew more troubling. In October 2009, a task force was formed by the Michigan State Police to dedicate more resources to her case. After an extensive investigation, authorities announced that they suspected foul play was involved in her disappearance. Despite this suspicion and the efforts of law enforcement, few details about the case have been made public. The identity of the friend Mary was supposed to meet remains unknown, and the trail that began with a supposed trip to Detroit has long since gone cold, leaving a cloud of uncertainty over the fate of Mary Ann Tautkus.
