On April 20, 2006, nine-year-old Colt Levi Clark vanished from his home in Wewoka, Oklahoma, where he lived with his paternal aunt and uncle, Rebecca and James Rex Clark. At the time of his disappearance, Colt was described as being 4'4" tall and weighing 65 pounds, with brown hair, hazel eyes, and a noticeable scar above his left eyebrow. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a sky-blue shirt, and white and blue tennis shoes, and he also wore silver glasses. Colt and his older brother had been placed in the care of their aunt and uncle three years prior after being removed from their parents' home by the state. The couple, who were homeschooling both boys, reported Colt missing on the same day a social worker was scheduled for a home visit after several previous cancellations. They claimed Colt was afraid of state workers and had jumped out of a window shortly before the caseworker's arrival, suggesting he had run away. The initial belief that Colt had run away was supported by the fact that his backpack was missing. However, this theory was soon questioned by investigators. Tracker dogs brought to the property were unable to find Colt's scent leading away from the home, and the Clarks' behavior raised suspicion. They reportedly seemed unconcerned about the boy's whereabouts, spoke of him in the past tense, and declined to take a lie detector test. James Rex Clark also told police that his nephew was skilled in survival techniques and could last for months on his own. In the months following Colt's disappearance, his older brother was removed from the Clarks' care and eventually adopted by another family. For a decade, Colt's case remained cold with no significant leads. The turning point came in 2016 when Colt's older brother came forward with disturbing allegations of long-term abuse that both he and Colt had endured at the hands of their guardians. He described being beaten with various objects and even shocked with a cattle prod. He recounted a specific incident in March 2006, where Colt was accused of stealing a ring and was severely beaten for nearly an hour. Later that night, he saw Colt lying under a couch, his face bruised and swollen. When he woke up again in the early morning hours, Colt and a sleeping bag were gone. Based on this testimony, James Rex and Rebecca Clark were arrested and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse. In 2017, they were both convicted of murdering their nephew and were sentenced to life in prison. Despite the conviction and extensive searches of the couple's property, Colt Levi Clark's body has never been found. The case is a heartbreaking story of a young boy's life cut short by those who were supposed to protect him, with the lack of his recovery leaving a painful void for those who remember him.
