In the summer of 1986, 38-year-old Patricia L. Colyer, also known as Patricia Louise Mahon, was living in Tacoma, Washington. On the Fourth of July, she was last seen by her family before she reportedly left with individuals named "Dee" and her husband, telling her mother she would be away for a few days. Her boyfriend officially reported her missing that same day. Patricia was a woman with brown hair and brown eyes, standing at approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing around 110 pounds. For decades, her case remained cold, leaving her family with unanswered questions about her sudden and complete disappearance. The investigation into what happened to Patricia yielded no significant leads for nearly forty years. The passage of time did little to erase the hope for answers. A crucial step was taken when a relative of Patricia's submitted a DNA sample more than two decades ago, a contribution that would eventually prove vital. Then, in May of 2025, a significant discovery was made in a wooded area in Chelan County, near milepost 27 on Entiat River Road. Human remains, specifically a partial cranium, were found. Following this discovery, an extensive search of the area was conducted by Chelan County deputies, Emergency Management, Search and Rescue volunteers, and K9 units specializing in locating human remains, but no further remains were located. The partial cranium was sent to the King County Medical Examiner's Office for examination by a state forensic anthropologist. Through the use of DNA technology, the remains were officially identified as Patricia L. Colyer in June 2026. After nearly four decades of uncertainty, her family finally had a measure of closure, though the circumstances of her death remain a mystery. Due to the limited nature of the remains, the cause and manner of her death could not be determined. The investigation has since been turned over to the Tacoma Police Department, the original investigating agency. With no current leads or suspects, the case of what happened to Patricia Colyer after she left her mother's home on that July day in 1986 remains an open and unresolved investigation.
