Kristi Lynn Vorak, a 13-year-old female, vanished from her foster home in Tacoma, Washington, on October 31, 1982. On the evening of Halloween, the young girl with brown hair and hazel eyes was seen for the last time. There was a possible but unconfirmed sighting of her later that night at a bus depot in Seattle, Washington. Kristi had a unique physical characteristic: a birth defect that resulted in her left middle finger being about an inch shorter than average. At the time of her disappearance, she was 5'3" and weighed approximately 110 pounds. Although she was known to frequent the streets of Tacoma and nearby areas, she did not have a history of running away. Initially, investigators treated Kristi's case as a runaway, a common assumption in the early stages of a teen's disappearance. However, as time went on with no contact from Kristi, concerns for her safety grew, and the possibility of foul play became a significant consideration. Her mother held onto the hope that Kristi might still be alive, possibly living in the Seattle area, but law enforcement officials came to believe she was no longer living. The circumstances of her disappearance, especially given the era and location, led to a more sinister theory. In May 1993, a disturbing connection was made, and Kristi's name was added to the list of probable victims of the notorious Green River Killer, Gary Ridgway. This was due to the timeframe and geographical area of her disappearance aligning with the pattern of other young women who had disappeared or been murdered by the serial killer between 1982 and 1984. While Kristi was younger than many of Ridgway's confirmed victims and did not have a background in sex work, which was common among his targets, the possibility of her being one of his victims could not be dismissed. When questioned about Kristi's case, Ridgway stated that he could not recall any details about her. Despite the lack of a confession or the discovery of her remains, the belief that she may have been a victim of the Green River Killer persists among some investigators. The case remains an active and unsolved missing person investigation, a painful ambiguity for those who knew and loved Kristi.
