On the evening of September 6, 1975, a 22-year-old college student named Sylvia Alice Lwowski vanished from Staten Island, New York. She had gone on a date with her fiancé, Charles Cirronella, reportedly to see a movie at the Island Theater on Richmond Avenue. According to her fiancé's account, the couple had an argument in his car near the K-Mart Plaza. He stated that during the dispute, Sylvia threw her eyeglasses against the dashboard, exited the vehicle, and walked away, intending to take a bus home. Sylvia was never seen or heard from again. At the time she went missing, she was described as wearing a white sweater, a green shirt, and brown shoes, along with a watch and her heart-shaped engagement ring. She was also carrying a brown handbag. Sylvia was a biology major at Wagner College, where she was a member of a sorority and the college band. Described as a responsible individual, her sudden disappearance was out of character. In the immediate aftermath, her family was met with frustration, as law enforcement initially treated the case as a voluntary disappearance. Sylvia's mother, hoping for her daughter's return, kept all of her engagement gifts. In the weeks that followed, her mother hired a private investigator, but this yielded no significant leads. Sylvia's parents have since passed away without ever knowing what happened to their daughter, but her younger brother has continued the search for answers. Decades have passed, but the mystery of what happened to Sylvia Lwowski remains unsolved. The case is now considered a cold case, managed by the New York City Police Department's Cold Case Squad.
