In the small town of Raymond, Washington, the evening of February 6, 1996, marked the beginning of an enduring mystery for the Phiangdae family. Eleven-year-old Male Loukthayoth Phiangdae, affectionately known as Luke, was at his family's home on Crescent Street. Following a minor disagreement with his father, Luke went to his bedroom. Later that evening, his family discovered his bedroom door was locked. After forcing the door open, they found the room empty and a screen removed from the window, suggesting he had left through it. At the time of his disappearance, Luke was described as an Asian male with black hair and brown eyes, standing between 4'2" and 4'5" tall and weighing about 65 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, black pants, a black denim jacket, and tennis shoes. A notable characteristic is a birthmark on his right buttock. The family, who had immigrated to the United States from Laos after spending years in a prisoner of war camp, was thrust into a state of uncertainty. It was considered highly out of character for Luke to leave without warning, as he did not have a history of running away. The night he vanished was stormy, which complicated initial search efforts. An extensive search was launched by land, air, and water in the days that followed, but it yielded no physical evidence of the young boy's whereabouts. The only potential lead was a possible brief sighting of him about half a mile from his home, but this was never confirmed. The disappearance of the boy who loved video games and was known as a dodgeball star on the playground left the small logging and fishing community in shock and searching for answers. Decades have passed since Loukthayoth "Luke" Phiangdae was last seen, and his case remains an unsolved and painful enigma. Foul play is suspected in his disappearance. Various theories have emerged over the years, including the possibility that he ran away, was abducted, or had an accident such as drowning. There was a reported but unconfirmed sighting of someone resembling Luke in Oregon in 2005. The Raymond Police Department continues to hold the case file, and agencies like the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children have created age-progressed photos to show what he might look like as an adult. The lack of concrete evidence or a clear direction has left his family and investigators with many questions and no definitive answers, preserving the heart-wrenching mystery of what happened to the 11-year-old boy that stormy night.
