In the pre-Christmas chill of December 22, 1990, 21-year-old Richard Eugene Dale Hitchcock vanished from Allegan, Michigan. He was last seen in the early morning hours, around 2:30 a.m., leaving the Riverfront Lounge on Water Street. Accounts from that night suggest an altercation may have taken place before his disappearance. Richard, known to his loved ones as Ritchie, was reportedly involved in an incident at the lounge and was escorted out. Following this, there are reports of another confrontation in a nearby parking lot with a group of men. These individuals later claimed they saw Richard jump a fence and head towards the Kalamazoo River. He has not been seen or heard from since. A few days after he was last seen, Richard's car was found and impounded from a parking lot close to the lounge. Inside the vehicle were Christmas presents, a poignant reminder of the holiday season that was just days away. Despite this discovery, Richard was not officially reported as a missing person until December 28, six days after he was last seen. He was known to have a distinctive keychain, a clear epoxy block with a scorpion molded inside, which has never been recovered. At the time of his disappearance, Richard was described as being 6 feet tall and weighing around 135 pounds, with red, bushy hair and blue eyes. He had several possible scars, including on his hands, nose, and one of his shins, as well as a scar on his right hip. The night he went missing, he was not wearing his usual contact lenses. The investigation into Richard's disappearance has spanned decades, with law enforcement conducting extensive searches, including of the Kalamazoo River, but no trace of him was found. The belief among investigators and his family is that foul play was involved in his disappearance. Over the years, numerous theories have emerged, and rumors have circulated within the community. Richard's family has been relentless in their search for answers, at times taking on the search efforts themselves. His cousin has been a vocal advocate, and in recent years, the family has received anonymous tips regarding his possible whereabouts, leading them to excavate a property in the hopes of finding his remains. Despite these efforts and the passage of time, the case of Richard Hitchcock's disappearance officially remains unsolved, leaving his loved ones with unanswered questions about what happened to him that December night.
