On a summer evening in June of 1981, fifteen-year-old Kim Marie Larrow was looking forward to a night out with her friend. She was last seen at an ice cream parlor located near Sheldon and Ann Arbor roads in Canton, Michigan, where her best friend was working. The two had made plans to meet up later that night at Haggerty Field in Hines Park, a local spot where teenagers often gathered. Kim had only recently moved to Canton to live with her mother on Beaufort Drive, having previously resided with her father in Dundee, Michigan. This move was a significant change for the teenager, and she had only been in her new home for about a week before she vanished. That evening, after leaving the ice cream parlor, Kim never made it to Haggerty Field and was never seen or heard from again. The initial response to Kim's disappearance was complicated by her history. Described as a rebellious teenager, Kim had a habit of running away and was known to hitchhike. She had previously run away from her mother's home on two separate occasions, once even hitchhiking to Florida with a friend. Because of this, she wasn't reported as a missing person for several days after she was last seen. This delay in reporting her missing, coupled with her mother's reported refusal to cooperate with the investigation, hindered the crucial early stages of the search. Despite her past actions, those close to Kim, including her extended family, noted that it was out of character for her to not make contact with someone to let them know she was safe, something she had always done during previous runaway incidents. This time, there was only silence. Decades have passed since Kim Larrow vanished, and her case has grown cold, leaving her family with unanswered questions. Over the years, several theories and potential suspects have emerged. One theory linked her disappearance to the "Babysitter" serial killer who was active in Oakland County in the mid-1970s, but because Kim's body was never found, this connection remained uncertain. Another individual, David Norberg, who lived near Kim, was also considered a person of interest, but he died in a car accident in 1981 and was never charged. In 2018, authorities announced a significant development, naming Arthur Ream, a convicted murderer and suspected serial killer, as a possible suspect in Kim's disappearance, as well as the disappearances of other young women. Ream had a history of sexual assault and was convicted of the 1986 murder of thirteen-year-old Cindy Zarzycki. While in prison, Ream allegedly boasted to cellmates about having multiple victims. Despite searches of a property where Ream had buried another victim, no further remains were found. Ream died in prison in 2024, taking any potential secrets with him. The investigation into what happened to Kim Larrow remains open, a painful and unresolved story for her loved ones who continue to hope for answers.
