In the late summer of 2002, the life of a young mother and educator from Norfolk, Virginia, took a devastating and mysterious turn. Sharon Ivy Jones, a 33-year-old teacher's assistant, disappeared without a trace after a night out with friends. On the evening of Saturday, September 21, she attended a friend's wedding and later went to a dance party. In the early hours of September 22, around 3:00 a.m., she left the party in her red Toyota Tercel. The last known sighting of Sharon was of her driving westbound on Interstate 64 from Chesapeake Boulevard. She had reportedly mentioned to friends that she might stop at a Taco Bell, but it remains unknown if she ever did. The hours ticked by, and a sense of unease grew when Sharon, a devoted mother, failed to arrive to pick up her two-year-old daughter from the child's father. The initial search for Sharon led to discoveries that only deepened the mystery and heightened the fear for her safety. Her car was found, not abandoned on a roadside, but parked in its assigned space in front of her residence at the Breezy Point Apartments, located in the 8600 block of Glenn Myrtle Avenue. This discovery suggested she may have made it home, but the scene inside her apartment painted a grim picture. The front door was unlocked, and investigators found signs of a disturbance. Items had been broken, and, ominously, the cords for both of her telephones had been pulled out from the walls. In a perplexing twist, the black spaghetti strap top and black pants she had worn that night were found inside the apartment. Despite the disarray, none of her personal belongings, including her purse, were missing, and there has been no activity on her bank accounts since her disappearance. In the years following her disappearance, Sharon's family has been left with unanswered questions and enduring grief. Her daughter was raised by Sharon's parents, who, along with Sharon's younger sister, traveled frequently from their home in New Jersey to Virginia to search for her and keep her case in the public eye. Tragically, her sister passed away in 2003, never learning what happened. At the time she went missing, Sharon was a student at Norfolk State University and was employed as a teacher's assistant in a preschool program at Lynnhaven Elementary School. She is described as having a round vaccination mark on her upper left arm and a tattoo of a Tweety Bird on her right shoulder. The overview of the case points to a deeply troubling scenario: a young mother who seemingly made it back to her apartment complex, only to encounter a struggle within her own home that ended with her vanishing completely, leaving behind her child, her car, and a disturbing, silent crime scene.
