In the small community of Middleton, Michigan, the story of Glenn Richard Hustin, Jr., known to his friends and family as Lenny, is a somber tale of a man who vanished under troubling circumstances. On the evening of February 5, 2001, the 30-year-old was last seen at his residence on North Caroline Street. A coworker from the Fulton Country Corners gas station, where he was a dedicated employee, had given him a ride home that day. Glenn, a man described as happy and sociable despite being developmentally disabled, was expected at work the following morning but never arrived. This uncharacteristic absence was the first sign that something was gravely wrong. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a blue and green flannel jacket, jeans, and athletic shoes. He also wore distinctive jewelry: a silver mood ring, a silver Avon ring with a diamond, and a silver watch. The days following Glenn’s disappearance only deepened the mystery and concern. A week after he was last seen, he was scheduled to testify as a witness in a criminal case against his landlord and employer, Roger Eugene Brown. Hustin had reportedly witnessed Brown stealing a rifle and a bow from another tenant's apartment and had also seen Brown assault a child in his own apartment. Initially, Glenn told police that Brown had not taken anything, but later changed his story, admitting he had been afraid. Due to Glenn's disappearance, the key witness was absent, and the larceny charges against Brown were ultimately dismissed. Brown did, however, plead guilty to the assault charge and was fined. Two weeks after Glenn vanished, his blue bicycle with a wire basket was found abandoned in Ithaca, Michigan, but there was no sign of Glenn himself. The investigation into Glenn's disappearance has been fraught with difficulties and few leads. His apartment was found intact, with his clean laundry sitting by the door, suggesting he did not plan to leave. Over the years, numerous tips and theories have been explored by the Michigan State Police, including the possibility that he had traveled to Florida or Kentucky, but none of these leads have been substantiated. His sister's own attempts to investigate were met with intimidation, including threats and vandalism to her car, forcing her to abandon her efforts for her own safety. Since he went missing, there has been no activity on Glenn's Social Security number, and none of his government assistance or income tax refund checks have been cashed. The case of Glenn Hustin Jr. remains an open and frustrating one for law enforcement and a source of unending pain for his family, who believe he met with foul play. His disappearance, just before he was to testify in a criminal case, continues to be a central and suspicious element in the ongoing mystery.
