In the quiet landscape of upstate New York, a family continues to hold out hope for answers in the nearly three-decade-long mystery surrounding the disappearance of Guy Pyke. A 70-year-old grandfather, Guy was last seen on the afternoon of April 2, 1999. On that clear spring day, he departed from his residence on Aitchison Road, intending to visit a relative in Watertown. His last confirmed sighting was at approximately 3:00 p.m. in the vicinity of the 2000 block of State Route 11 in Evans Mills, New York. He briefly stopped at a cousin's home but, for reasons unknown, did not get out of his vehicle before driving away. This fleeting moment would be the last time anyone is known to have seen him. Concern grew when he did not return home, and two days later, his family officially reported him missing. The delay in reporting was due to his history of taking short, independent trips. At the time of his disappearance, Guy was described as a Caucasian male, standing at 6'0" and weighing around 168 to 170 pounds, with gray hair and blue eyes. He wore bifocal glasses with wire frames. Distinguishing features included a scar on the bridge of his nose and a surgical scar on his abdomen. He was last seen wearing a red, green, and blue plaid shirt over a maroon sweatshirt, blue "Rider" jeans, and brown "Gobie" boots. Guy was also facing significant health challenges. He had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, which could cause confusion and disorientation. Additionally, he had a heart condition that required him to take a prescription blood thinner, and he tired easily with hands that would shake. The vehicle Guy was driving, a dark blue 1989 Chevrolet Blazer with a black top and chrome diamond running boards, bearing the New York license plate number FMS 867, also vanished without a trace. It's known that the Blazer had a full tank of gasoline on the day he went missing. He did not have any money with him at the time of his disappearance, with only his driver's license inside the vehicle. While he had previously mentioned a desire to travel to Florida, there is no evidence to suggest he ever made it there, nor is there any indication that he crossed the Canadian border. The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office has kept the case open, continuing to follow up on any leads that emerge in what has become one of the region's most quietly haunting cold cases. The lack of any crash site, witnesses, or financial activity has left his family with a silence that has stretched over a quarter of a century, a painful void in the place of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
