In the spring of 2023, a sense of concern grew in Culpeper, Virginia, following the disappearance of 16-year-old Griselda Yaneth Choc Choc. The teenage girl was last seen on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the residence of her brother, who was also her sponsor. At the time she went missing, Griselda was described as a Hispanic female with long black hair and hazel eyes, standing at 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing approximately 130 pounds. When she left, she was reportedly wearing black pants and a black shirt adorned with pink flowers. It is believed that she took all of her personal belongings with her, though she did not have a known cell phone or any other communication device at the time of her departure. The circumstances surrounding Griselda's disappearance suggest she may have left voluntarily, possibly with her boyfriend, Edgar CAAL. Authorities believe she might have been en route to either Maryland or Delaware. The Culpeper Police Department opened an investigation into her case, designated as CPD Case #2304-0079, and began seeking information from the public to help locate her. Distinctive physical features noted by investigators include scars on the toes of her left foot resulting from a previous injury. Griselda's case is part of a larger, troubling pattern in the Culpeper area, which has seen a significant number of missing teenagers, many of whom are of Mayan descent. Since July of 2021, at least 24 teens have been reported missing from the region. Many of these young people, like Griselda, were unaccompanied minors placed with sponsors in Culpeper County. The trend has raised concerns among local law enforcement and community members. The investigation into Griselda's whereabouts has been marked by a lack of substantial leads, a common challenge in cases involving unaccompanied minors who may lack strong local ties and resources. The overview of this case reflects a community's concern for a missing young person and the broader, complex issues surrounding the disappearance of multiple teenagers in the same area.
