Hieu Phuong Tran, a 25-year-old man of Vietnamese descent, was last seen in Unalaska, Alaska, during the early morning hours of January 10, 2003. He was seen between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m. dropping off two fishermen at the spit dock in Dutch Harbor. At the time of his disappearance, Tran was operating a 1993 Ford truck rented from B.C. Rentals.
Two days later, on January 12, the truck Tran had been driving was discovered abandoned. The vehicle was parked at the small boat launch near Alyesk
