Seven-year-old Huaiyu Chin, and his four-year-old brother, Binyu Chin, vanished from San Diego, California, on January 12, 2019. The boys were allegedly abducted by their non-custodial father, Foong Lian Chin, during a scheduled weekend visitation. Their mother, Hongying Liu, became alarmed when Huaiyu did not show up for school and Binyu was not returned home after the visit. Upon visiting Foong Chin's apartment, she and her husband discovered it had been emptied.
