Linda Lee Lovell, a 25-year-old former student at the University of Montana-Missoula, was last seen in June 1974 in Stinson Beach, California. She was on a hitchhiking trip with 18-year-old Stephen Locke Packard of Hopewell, New Jersey. Their journey began at Packard's home in early June 1974, with the intention of hiking the Pacific Coast Trail from Mexico to Oregon. Their plans also included attending the World's Fair in Spokane, Washington, and visiting Lovell's family in Missoula, Montana.
