Jon Dana Snyder, a 45-year-old resident of Covelo, California, was last seen by a neighbor in December 1994. He resided on Eel River Ranch Road in the remote community. Concerns for his well-being arose when his family was unable to contact him. On June 27, 1995, approximately six months after he was last seen, his family officially reported him as a missing person to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.
