Zachary Carl Orlando Rodriguez was two years old when he was abducted by his non-custodial father, Rolando Rodriguez, on June 7, 1987, from Carpentersville, Illinois. This was not the first time Rolando had taken his son; in 1985, during a contentious divorce from Zachary's mother, Nadine Walter, he had an accomplice kidnap the two-and-a-half-month-old infant and fled to Texas before returning voluntarily.
