On September 24, 1984, one-year-old Deborah Lyyn Sanders was abducted by her non-custodial father, Odell Sheppard, from her home in Chicago, Illinois. Deborah's mother, Norell Sanders, reported that Sheppard had called her, threatening to take the child and that she would never see her again.
