On April 3, 1976, Peggy Joyce Parmenter, age 41, and her common-law husband, Bernard Rusness, vanished from their farm in Wolf Lake, Minnesota. The couple had been seen at a grocery store earlier in the day, and Rusness was observed leveling his driveway around 4:00 p.m. Later that night, between 11:30 p.m. and midnight, neighbors reported that the couple's house was on fire.
