On January 22, 1998, 16-year-old Jennifer Long, a sophomore at East High School in Kansas City, Missouri, vanished after attending her first two morning classes. Following a physical altercation with other students, she left the school grounds around 9:30 a.m. She was reportedly seen later at a nearby grocery store where she encountered Wesley Ira Purkey, a local handyman. Long was last seen getting into Purkey's white 1989 Ford pickup truck and was never heard from again.
