On the afternoon of May 8, 1987, 29-year-old David Scott Partlow, known as Dave, disappeared in Flathead County, Montana, after embarking on a hang gliding excursion with three friends from Blaine Mountain, located northeast of Kalispell. While his friends navigated their gliders south, unforeseen heavy winds propelled Partlow northward, pushing him off course. His hang glider was not built to withstand such extreme weather conditions, and he was observed being drawn upward and out of sight.
