Allen Clarence Theis, a 52-year-old man from Eden Valley, Minnesota, traveled to Lewistown, Montana, in November 2003 for a hunting and rock-collecting vacation. He checked into the Super 8 motel on November 22, with the intention of staying for two nights. Theis, described as a responsible and avid outdoorsman, had informed his mother he would return home by the end of the month.
