John E. Warren, a 69-year-old retired engineering professor, vanished on the morning of August 7, 1983, from his home in Toms River, New Jersey. He informed his wife of 47 years that he was going for his customary walk through the woods to Ocean County College and expected to return within an hour. Although his wife suggested he drive, he chose to walk. A security guard at the college saw him on College Drive at 9:15 a.m., and he was later seen speaking with a jogger on Brokaw Boulevard at 9:50
