On September 6, 2009, 61-year-old Melvin Nadel went missing while on a bow hunting trip with two friends in the Elk Mountain area of the Santa Fe National Forest, near Pecos, New Mexico. An experienced hunter and outdoorsman, Nadel was the owner of a Pilates gym in Santa Fe and held a first-degree black belt in tae kwon do. He was a married father of one, having moved to New Mexico with his family in 1991.
