On April 9, 2016, 21-year-old Taylor Kayjean Machado, a Petty Officer 3rd Class in the U.S. Navy, was reported missing from the USS Carter Hall. A gunner's mate, Machado was on board the dock landing ship during training exercises approximately 60 nautical miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
