On April 9, 2016, a 21-year-old U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class named Taylor Kayjean Machado was last seen aboard the U.S.S. Carter Hall. The vessel was approximately 60 nautical miles off the coast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, engaged in training operations in preparation for a future deployment.
