On April 18, 2002, three-year-old John Thai Nguyen, his four-year-old sister Kristina Nguyen, and their mother Van 'Stephanie' Nguyen, disappeared from Cincinnati, Ohio. The departure was preceded by Stephanie leaving notes for her husband and parents. In these notes, she cited a failing marriage as the reason for her decision to end her own life and the lives of her children by driving into the Ohio River.
