On August 15, 1962, 48-year-old Eloise Way vanished from Charleston, South Carolina, leaving behind a perplexing case that has endured for decades. A bookkeeper for the Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company, Way left her office on Wentworth Street at 10:00 a.m. to make deposits at two nearby banks, the First National Bank and the C&S Bank, a walk of about four blocks.
