On October 14, 2017, 57-year-old Danny Ray Hall was last seen in Jamestown, Tennessee. His girlfriend dropped him off at approximately 9:00 a.m. at the end of Sam Beaty Road, an area he was very familiar with, as he planned to spend the day hunting for ginseng, a valuable root. Hall, an experienced woodsman, was known to frequent the area for this purpose. A hunter later reported seeing him in a tree stand on top of a bluff, which is the last known sighting of him.
