On June 27, 2007, 20-year-old Paul Lee Slinkard and his friend, 20-year-old Bradley Andrew McMellon, disappeared after a camping trip in Marble Falls, Texas. The two were on their way back to their homes in Leander, Texas, in McMellon's Jeep Cherokee when they were last seen near a low-water crossing in Smithwick. Authorities believe the men encountered a flash flood at Hickory Creek, located approximately ten miles east of Marble Falls.
