On January 31, 2022, four-year-old Codi Bigsby was reported missing from his Hampton, Virginia, home by his father, Cory Jamar Bigsby. Cory told police he last saw Codi asleep in his bed at their home in the Buckroe Pointe townhomes at 2:00 a.m. and discovered him missing when he awoke at 9:00 a.m. Codi lived with his father and three brothers, a five-year-old and two-year-old twins. Authorities were immediately skeptical of Cory's account of his son's disappearance.
