In the summer of 2022, a 16-year-old boy named Luis Brayan Choc-Yaxcal vanished from his guardian's home in Culpeper, Virginia. He was last seen on Thursday, July 28th, 2022. Luis, a Hispanic male with black hair and brown eyes, stood at approximately 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighed around 130 pounds at the time of his disappearance. The circumstances surrounding his departure are limited, but it is known that he took all of his personal belongings with him. The case is complicated by a significant delay in reporting him missing. The guardian, who was also his sponsor, did not notify law enforcement about Luis's disappearance until December 2022. The reason given for this delay was that the guardian was unaware that it was necessary to involve the police. This five-month gap between when Luis was last seen and when he was officially reported missing created significant challenges for the investigation from the very beginning. Adding to the difficulty, a cell phone belonging to the guardian that Luis took with him was disconnected, eliminating a potential way to track his whereabouts. The Culpeper Police Department is actively seeking any information that could lead to locating Luis. His case is part of a troubling trend in the Culpeper area, where a number of Guatemalan teens have been reported missing. This pattern has raised concerns among community members and law enforcement. The investigation into Luis's disappearance remains open, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward. His destination and method of travel from his guardian's residence remain unknown, leaving his family and investigators with many unanswered questions.
