In the late spring of 2008, a 41-year-old man named Keith Allan Fetter vanished from Henry County, Virginia, leaving behind a life that included three children. On May 24th, Keith, a former truck driver and graduate of Gretna High School, visited the home of his estranged wife. He was not alone; he arrived with his roommate and another couple, along with their child. Keith, who had been separated from his wife for about three months, was reportedly agitated and seemed to be intoxicated. The purpose of the visit was ostensibly for the couple with them to potentially get a dog Keith had left at the residence. He left with his companions in an older, two-tone brown station wagon. Shortly after they drove away, his wife and daughter witnessed the car stop down the road and saw someone exit the vehicle. This would be the last time he was reportedly seen by his immediate family. The account of what transpired next comes from the companions who were with Keith that day. They informed his wife that an argument had broken out in the car, leading to Keith exiting the vehicle at a stop sign. He then allegedly ran across a field and into a wooded area near the intersection of Wingfield Orchard Road and Matthews Mill Road. Approximately fifteen minutes after their initial departure, his friends returned to his wife's home to tell her he was gone. Despite his enjoyment of camping, those close to him noted he preferred campsites with electricity and would not have chosen to remain in the woods for an extended period. This sudden disappearance was out of character, as he had maintained regular contact with his children despite the separation from his wife. In the years that have followed, Keith Allan Fetter has not been heard from again. The initial days after he went missing saw searches conducted by family members, sheriff's officers, and search and rescue teams, but these efforts yielded no clues as to his whereabouts. At one point, a tip led investigators to search Philpott Lake, but that too proved fruitless. The case remains unsolved, and investigators believe he is deceased. His wife also believes he would not have willingly abandoned his children, a sentiment that deepens the sorrow surrounding his long absence. The official investigation into his disappearance is still considered active, leaving his family with unanswered questions and the enduring pain of not knowing what happened to him after he ran into the woods on that May day.
