In the small community of Sooke, British Columbia, a sense of unease settled in the autumn of 2001. Jesokah Adkens, a bright and beautiful 17-year-old girl with aspirations of becoming a nurse, vanished on the evening of September 26th. Known affectionately as Jes to her friends and family, she was a student at Edward Milne Community School. That evening, after having dinner with a male friend, Jesokah was last seen at approximately 9:30 p.m. near a bus stop at the corner of Sooke Road and Idlemore Road. She was waiting for a bus to take her the short two-kilometer journey home. Standing at 5'5' with a slender build, long blonde hair, and blue eyes, she was wearing a black bomber-style jacket over a 'Doors' t-shirt, blue jeans, and black running shoes. Although she had recently moved into an apartment with a roommate, Jesokah remained close with her parents and brothers, maintaining regular contact. Her disappearance was completely out of character, especially as she had just brought home a six-month-old German Shepard puppy named Daphne, whom she adored.

It wasn't until a couple of days had passed that the true weight of her absence began to be felt. When Jesokah failed to make contact, her mother, Jocelan Adkens, went to check on her at her apartment on Friday, but she wasn't there. After speaking with Jesokah's roommate the next day and learning she hadn't been seen since Wednesday, her family reported her missing to the Sooke RCMP. Investigators immediately suspected foul play. Left behind in her home were her backpack, all of her identification, and her beloved puppy. Furthermore, money in her bank account remained untouched. Her family was adamant that she would never have willingly left without making arrangements for her dog's care. An intensive search was launched, involving ground crews, a helicopter, and a dive team, but they found no trace of the missing teenager. The bus driver on the route that night did not recall seeing her, and reports also surfaced that Jesokah was known to hitchhike at times, a practice her parents had discouraged.

Years have passed since Jesokah Adkens was last seen, and her case remains an active and unsolved investigation. The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit eventually took over the case, pursuing hundreds of leads over the decades, though none have led to a resolution. The disappearance has left a lasting scar on the community of Sooke, where a faded memorial marks the spot where she was last seen. Some friends and residents believe that there are people within the community who hold information about what happened to Jesokah but have been too afraid to come forward. Her family has been left in a state of perpetual grief, clinging to hope for answers. The case of Jesokah Adkens is an enduring mystery, a story of a young life with a promising future that was abruptly cut short, leaving a void filled with unanswered questions and the lingering pain of not knowing what happened on that September night.
