On a spring day in 2004, a 35-year-old mother of four named Elaine Frieda Alook left her home in the small community of Anzac, Alberta. She was headed to Fort McMurray on May 11th to see a doctor for a recently injured wrist, which was healing in a cast that stretched from her wrist to her elbow.
