In the crisp autumn air of a late October night in 2004, Cynthia Albena Audy, a 27-year-old mother of two from the Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation, was spending time with her sister at her townhouse on Jarvis Avenue in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The two sisters were drinking together, and in the early morning hours, they ran out of beer. Cynthia told her sister she was going to a vendor to buy more and would be right back.
