In the autumn of 2013, a 24-year-old mother of two named Elizabeth Clarke vanished from Navan, County Meath, Ireland. Known to be a vulnerable person, she was last seen in early November in the Claremont Estate, at the residence she shared with her ex-partner and his family. Estranged from her own family for some time, they had not seen her in person since the previous year. The alarm was raised in January 2015 when she failed to attend her grandfather's funeral, a non-attendance that her family found deeply concerning and out of character, as they do not believe she would have willingly left her children. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as being 5ft 3in tall, with a stocky build, brown hair, and brown eyes, and was reportedly wearing a yellow hooded top and blue jeans. The initial report of her disappearance in January 2015 launched an extensive investigation by the Gardaí. Over the years, authorities conducted numerous searches of fields, canals, and rivers in an effort to locate her, but these efforts yielded no trace of the missing woman. Her phone, passport, and bank cards were all left behind, and there have been no confirmed sightings of her since November 2013. The case took a significant turn in February 2025 when investigators reclassified it from a missing person case to a murder investigation. This decision was the result of extensive inquiries, leading authorities to believe that she was murdered around the time she was last seen, possibly following a period of mistreatment by someone known to her. Following the reclassification of the case to a murder inquiry, a search was conducted at a property in Navan. Despite the intrusive nature of the search, which included excavation, it was reported that her remains were not discovered at the location. The investigation into her death remains active, with authorities believing they have a definite line of inquiry. Elizabeth's family, particularly her mother, has been vocal about their pain and their relentless hope for justice. The years of uncertainty have been described as a "living hell," as they continue to seek answers and the chance to bring Elizabeth home for a proper burial. The case is a haunting story of a young mother's sudden disappearance that has left a family searching for closure for over a decade.
