In the late summer of 2006, a family from the Charlevoix region of Quebec was forever changed by the disappearance of Germain Gaudreault, a 30-year-old man affectionately known as "Junior". On August 26, 2006, Germain was seen for the last time. He was driving his white 1997 Plymouth vehicle alone and was reportedly spotted on Route 138. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as a white male, standing 1.68 meters tall, weighing 68 kilograms, with green eyes and brown hair. The last trace of Germain was his car, which was discovered abandoned that same day at the wharf in Les Escoumins. This discovery marked the beginning of a long and painful search for answers for his loved ones. In the wake of his disappearance, the Sûreté du Québec launched an investigation, conducting searches with investigators, divers, and members of their emergency unit, but no trace of Germain was found. It was reported that at the time he went missing, Germain was facing personal difficulties, which may have led him to seek isolation. Despite the passage of time, his family has not given up hope of one day understanding what happened. Years after he was last seen, his family requested that police reissue a call for public assistance, holding onto the belief that someone, somewhere might have a piece of information that could finally bring them clarity. The family has spoken of the ambiguity and unanswered questions that haunt them. His sister recalled seeing him in Saint-Hilarion on the very day he disappeared, a day they had planned to meet in Quebec City. The family has struggled to accept the theory of suicide, citing "nebulous things" that they do not understand, such as why his car was found in Les Escoumins and reports that it was moved from the wharf between 9:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on the night he vanished. They spent a month searching the area themselves, finding no clothing or any other sign of him. The case remains an open wound for the Gaudreault family, who have expressed their profound need for answers to be able to move forward. They continue to appeal for any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, that could help to unravel the mystery of what happened to Germain.
