On the evening of November 24, 1997, Daniel, also known as Danny to his loved ones, was seen at a local establishment, the Avenue Hotel, which was also referred to as the Park Hotel. Later that night, he returned to the residence he shared with two roommates and had a brief conversation with one of them around 11:00 p.m. He mentioned that he was leaving for his security job; however, it was later discovered that he had called in sick to work that evening. Daniel was never seen or heard from again. The details surrounding Daniel's disappearance have been a source of enduring pain and unanswered questions for his family. At the time he went missing, he was described as being approximately 5'8" to 5'9" tall, weighing around 195-200 pounds, with short brown hair, a mustache, and a dark blond goatee. He had a distinctive tattoo of a wolf's head within an orange moon on his upper left arm and a surgical scar around his shoulder. When last seen, he was wearing a white Nike baseball cap, a red and black checkered vest, a long-sleeved plaid shirt, black pants, and dark brown shoes. Compounding the mystery is the fact that his vehicle, a 1985 gold-colored Chrysler LeBaron with Alberta license plate number TSA 559, also disappeared and has never been located. Over the years, the investigation into Daniel Gaulton's disappearance has remained open, though leads have been sporadic. His family has never given up hope for answers and has actively sought to keep his memory and case in the public eye.
