In the spring of 2002, a 37-year-old man named Gerald Ivan Geake vanished from Edmonton, Alberta, leaving behind a circle of friends and a family who would wait more than a year before the official search for him would even begin. It wasn't until the spring of 2003 that friends, having realized a prolonged and uncharacteristic silence from Gerald, reported him as a missing person. At the time he was last seen in May 2002, he was described as being approximately 5'10" tall and weighing around 160 pounds, with blue eyes and blond hair styled in a mullet. His natural hair colour was believed to be brown. Friends and family remembered "Gerry," who worked in the flooring installation trade, as a peacemaker who enjoyed being around people and always had a smile. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance have long been considered suspicious by investigators. Information that has since come to light suggests a grim sequence of events leading up to the last time he was ever seen. Authorities believe that Gerald was the victim of two serious assaults at a residence in south Edmonton immediately before he disappeared. It is thought that after being injured, he left the residence in the company of two other individuals. He may have appeared incapacitated to anyone who might have seen him at that time. The vehicle they were in was a black 1992 GMC Sierra, which may have been seen in Edmonton's Avonmore neighbourhood. After leaving that residence, Gerald Geake was never seen or heard from again. For more than two decades, the case remained cold, a painful uncertainty for those who knew and loved him. Police now presume that he is deceased. A significant development finally came in June of 2026, when the Edmonton Police Service announced charges against a 54-year-old man from Two Hills County, Kevin Wade Moroz. Moroz, identified as a friend and co-worker of Gerald's, was charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. These charges are connected to the alleged assaults that occurred in the weeks leading up to Gerald's disappearance in 2002. Police have indicated they have spoken with the other person who was in the truck with Gerald and Moroz, but no charges have been laid against that individual. While these charges mark a major step in the investigation, the central question of what ultimately happened to Gerald Ivan Geake and where he might be remains unanswered, leaving his family without closure. The investigation into his suspicious disappearance continues.
