In the quiet city of Brockville, Ontario, a story of profound loss and unanswered questions began to unfold on January 28, 2018. On that evening, a 29-year-old man named Joshua Frederick George Hawkins was last seen. He had been admitted to the Brockville General Hospital for mental health treatment the previous day. Around 6:00 p.m., for reasons that remain unclear, Joshua fled the hospital on foot. He was seen by a police officer running down Hill Street, clad only in boxers and a hospital gown in the cold January air. Shortly after, a resident on Ormond Street reported that a man had broken into their home and stolen a yellow Tommy Hilfiger sweater, a teal polo shirt, and slippers before disappearing again into the night. This was the last confirmed series of events before Joshua vanished, leaving his family, including a young son, in a state of perpetual uncertainty. The search for Joshua began almost immediately, with the Brockville Police Service, later joined by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), launching an extensive investigation. Canine units were dispatched to search the area where he was last seen, near Hamilton Street and the CN Rail tracks. The only physical evidence recovered was the pair of slippers he had taken, found discarded as he ran. Investigators followed up on various tips, including a report of a man matching Joshua's description getting out of a dark-colored truck at a McDonald's on Parkedale Avenue, though this lead did not yield further information. The search efforts covered significant ground, including the entire CN track area, North Augusta Road, and other local areas, but found no trace of the missing man. As years have passed without any sign of Joshua, the circumstances surrounding his disappearance have been deemed criminally suspicious by authorities. This has led the Ontario government to offer a $50,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for his disappearance. Joshua is described as being six feet one inch tall, weighing 175 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has several distinctive tattoos, including a red heart on his right arm, the name "Kaitlyn" on his calf, and Godfather puppets tattooed down the side of his rib cage. The case remains an open and active investigation, a painful and unresolved chapter for his loved ones. The official overview of the case is a plea for public assistance, as investigators believe that someone holds the key piece of information that could finally bring answers and a measure of peace to a family that has waited far too long.
