The case took a disturbing turn six days later, on November 23, 2019, when hikers stumbled upon Iwaasa's burnt-out pickup truck. The vehicle was discovered on a remote logging road near Pemberton, British Columbia, a location approximately a 14-hour drive from where he was last seen in Lethbridge. His family insists he had no known connections to the Pemberton area. Strewn near the torched vehicle were some of Marshal's personal belongings, including his identification, clothing, and damaged electronics such as a laptop and three smashed cell phones. Due to the remote location, the hikers who found the truck had no cell service and were unable to report their discovery until the following day. The investigation into Marshal Iwaasa's disappearance has been fraught with difficulties and unanswered questions. Despite the suspicious circumstances, including the fact that a private investigator hired by the family determined the fire to be arson, authorities have stated there is no credible or compelling evidence to suggest foul play. This classification has been a source of frustration for his family, who believe his case should be treated as a criminal matter. Searches of the rugged terrain surrounding the discovery of his truck have yielded no signs of Marshal. It was also revealed that in the months leading up to his disappearance, Marshal had been experiencing personal stress, had secretly dropped out of his post-secondary program, and had stopped renewing his cell phone plan without his family's knowledge. The complete lack of activity on his bank cards since early November, including no fuel purchases for the long drive to British Columbia, adds another layer of complexity to the case. The mystery of what happened to Marshal Iwaasa after he left his storage locker, and how his truck ended up burned in a remote area so far from home, remains unsolved, leaving his loved ones in a painful state of uncertainty.
