In the spring of 1998, a young Indigenous man named Anthony Troy Janvier was navigating a transient lifestyle. At 22 years old, it wasn't uncommon for him to be out of touch with his family for periods. On April 8, 1998, Anthony was seen at the courthouse in Cold Lake, Alberta. This would be the last confirmed sighting of him. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch with a medium build, black hair, and brown eyes, Anthony was a noticeable figure. A scar near his right eye was a distinguishing feature. He was also known to sometimes use the alias Tony Janvier or Anthony Troy Martial. Due to the nature of his transient life, his absence was not immediately alarming. However, as time stretched on without any word, concern began to grow. On February 7, 2002, nearly four years after he was last seen, his mother officially reported him missing to the Cold Lake RCMP. The passage of time had made the trail cold, and the investigation into his disappearance faced significant challenges from the outset. Despite the years that had passed, the hope of finding answers for his family persisted. The investigation into Anthony's disappearance has remained open over the years, with his case being shared by various organizations dedicated to finding missing persons. Authorities have conducted searches and followed up on leads, but sadly, he has not been located. His case serves as a poignant reminder of the many Indigenous people who are missing and the enduring pain their families experience. The overview of this case is one of a young man who vanished, with the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remaining a mystery. The significant delay in him being reported missing, a consequence of his transient lifestyle, has undoubtedly complicated the investigation into what happened to Anthony Troy Janvier after he left the Cold Lake courthouse that day in 1998.
