In the spring of 2006, a 40-year-old family man and businessman named Mohmud Sadrudin Jiwani vanished, leaving behind a life that seemed, on the surface, to be stable and successful. On April 10th of that year, the Oakville, Ontario resident traveled to Toronto for what was described as a business meeting. He was a husband of 18 years and a father to two children, and his life appeared to be that of a typical family man. However, he never returned to his Oakville home, and the search for him would uncover a more complex story than anyone initially imagined. His vehicle, a Mercedes, was later found in the Jarvis and Dundas area of Toronto, with his wallet and cellphone inside. The investigation into Mohmud's disappearance quickly revealed that his final hours before vanishing were not spent in a business meeting. Instead, he was seen at Filmores, a gentlemen's club in Toronto, where witnesses reported he was drinking heavily and flashing a significant amount of cash. Early the next morning, he made a cash withdrawal from a nearby convenience store before parking his car where it would later be discovered. This was not the first time Mohmud had disappeared. Two years prior, he had been reported missing from Niagara Falls, where he owned two hotels, and was eventually found in a well-known crack den in Hamilton. Police reports from that incident described him as a heavy user of crack cocaine, a stark contrast to the image of a devout family man his wife portrayed to the media. As the days turned into weeks, the case grew even more perplexing when a ransom demand of $80,000 was made to the Jiwani family. In a desperate attempt to bring Mohmud home, his wife and business partner met two men in a parking lot and paid the ransom without involving the police. It was later discovered that the men were con artists, and they were arrested but never convicted; the money was never recovered. Despite an extensive investigation by the Halton Regional Police Service, no further credible information has surfaced regarding Mohmud Jiwani's whereabouts. The case remains unsolved, a mysterious and troubling story of a man who seemed to be leading a double life. While there were initial theories connecting his disappearance to others in the area, investigators have largely focused on his personal and business troubles as potential factors in his vanishing. The chances of finding him alive have diminished with the passage of time, leaving his family with unanswered questions.
