In the autumn of 1981, a 16-year-old female named Myriam Isabella Kniaz disappeared from Sainte-Foy, Quebec, a community near Quebec City. She was last seen on November 15, 1981, at the foster home where she was residing. At the time she went missing, Myriam was described as a Caucasian female with brown hair and brown eyes, standing 5'5" tall and weighing around 112 pounds. When she was last seen, she was wearing blue jeans, brown shoes, a blue and white vest, and a short, light green coat. Myriam was a citizen of the United States but had been living in Canada for some time before she vanished. She was fluent in both French and English. The months leading up to Myriam's disappearance were a time of significant emotional difficulty for the teenager. Her parents were going through a divorce, which left her feeling extremely depressed. Due to her emotional state, she was hospitalized for a period to receive treatment and to contemplate the difficult decision of which parent she would live with. Following her hospital stay, she moved into a youth centre for a few weeks to continue her recovery. Myriam had a history of running away from foster and group homes, and it was from such a placement that she was last seen. Just days before she vanished, she informed instructors at the center that she was going outside for some fresh air but never returned. In a poignant detail, she had given her mother Christmas presents shortly before she disappeared. In the years that have followed, Myriam Isabella Kniaz has never been seen again. Initially, investigators believed she had left on her own accord, given her past history of running away. Sadly, both of Myriam's parents have passed away in the decades since she went missing. There were unconfirmed reports in 1990 that she might have been in Kansas or Missouri, but these leads did not result in finding her. The case of Myriam's disappearance is a long-standing mystery, marked by the personal turmoil she faced as a young girl and the enduring silence that followed her departure. Despite the passage of time, her case remains an unsolved and open investigation.
