On the morning of April 30, 2014, in a quiet suburban home on Sabourin Crescent in Brossard, Quebec, a mother and her infant son were seen for the last time. Jian Ping Li, a 42-year-old computer programmer on maternity leave, and her 6-month-old baby, Xiao Feng Lu, vanished from their residence. The last person to see them was Jian Ping's husband, Hong Hui Lu, who left for work around 9:40 a.m. When he returned home at approximately 2:30 p.m., he found the house empty and the back door unlocked. A sense of unease must have quickly set in, as it was discovered that Jian Ping had left without any of her personal belongings. Her purse, wallet, credit cards, and cell phone were all left behind. Crucially, all of the baby's necessities, including the diaper bag, stroller, and car seat, also remained in the house. The immediate hours and days following their disappearance were filled with urgent activity. The Longueuil police were notified, and an extensive search was launched. Investigators scoured the area, checking hospitals, hotels, and transportation services, and reviewing security videos from nearby stores, but found no conclusive evidence of their whereabouts. The search efforts expanded to include police dogs, helicopters that surveyed the surrounding areas, and even checks of the nearby river's shores. Despite these efforts, no trace of the mother or her young child was found. Jian Ping Li was described as an intelligent woman who was a loving mother to her three children. She was an active member of the Montreal Chinese Alliance Grace Church. Neighbors, however, noted that she was a very private person, with some stating they had rarely, if ever, seen her in the six years she lived in the neighborhood. As years passed without answers, the investigation continued, marked by renewed efforts and public appeals for information. A command post was set up near the family home on multiple occasions to encourage residents to come forward with any information they might have. In January 2017, the investigation was officially relaunched, and police, with the assistance of specially trained dogs from the Ontario Provincial Police, conducted another search of the family's home and property. Over the years, investigators have also searched a nearby provincial park and a quarry, but these searches yielded no clues. A significant reward for information was offered through the community organization Sun Youth, which eventually increased to $20,000. The case even drew the attention of Interpol, due to Jian Ping having a Chinese passport. The disappearance of Jian Ping Li and her infant son, Xiao Feng Lu, is a perplexing case that has left a family in anguish and a community searching for answers. The circumstances of their vanishing, leaving behind all essential items and a car in the driveway, suggest they either left on foot or were taken from their home. Despite extensive and repeated investigations by multiple police agencies, public appeals, and a substantial reward, their fate remains unknown.
