In the cold of winter on February 2, 1980, a 36-year-old woman named Maria A. Lindner disappeared, leaving behind a four-decade-long mystery. At the time she went missing, Maria was described as a white female, standing 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 105 pounds. She had shoulder-length, frosted brown hair and hazel eyes. When last seen, it is believed she was wearing a white nurse's uniform with slacks, a beige canvas coat with fur lining, and white shoes. She was also wearing pearl earrings. Her last known location was in Buffalo, New York, but the circumstances of her disappearance are thought to have tragically crossed the border into Canada. The prevailing belief is that Maria was involved in a motor vehicle accident in Niagara Falls, Ontario. It is thought that the car she was in, a distinctive red and white 1977 Ford Thunderbird with New York license plate 942-EKF, entered the Niagara River near the Niagara River Parkway and Marshall Road. Following this event, authorities presumed that Maria had drowned in the powerful and unforgiving currents of the river. This theory, however, has never been definitively proven, as her body has never been recovered from the water.
