In the summer of 1979, a sense of new beginnings was in the air for 37-year-old Leroy Carl Marshall. Having recently moved in with his sister on the west side of Saint John, New Brunswick, in June of that year, he was settling into his new life. On July 23, 1979, a significant opportunity was on the horizon for Leroy, also known as Roy—a job interview with the local school district that could have been the next step in establishing his life in Saint John. However, Leroy never made it to that interview. That day, he vanished without a trace, leaving his family with a lifetime of unanswered questions. At the time he went missing, Leroy was described as a white male, standing at five feet ten inches tall and weighing approximately 141 pounds. He had a medium build, a dark complexion, and brown hair and eyes. Distinguishing features included a two-inch scar on his left wrist and an appendix scar on his abdomen. He also wore false teeth. Before his move to Saint John, Leroy had spent a decade, from 1961 to 1971, living in Somerville, Massachusetts, in the United States. His disappearance was unexpected, and with no evidence of what might have happened, his case has remained open and unsolved for decades. The circumstances surrounding Leroy Carl Marshall's disappearance have left a void in the lives of those who knew him. He was on the cusp of a new chapter, with the promise of employment and stability. His failure to attend his job interview was the first indication that something was wrong. Despite the passage of many years, his case remains an active missing person investigation with the Saint John Police Force. The lack of any substantial leads or information about his whereabouts since that July day in 1979 has made this a particularly enduring and sorrowful mystery for his family and the community.
