She was last seen wearing a black "The North Face" brand coat, a black toque, sport pants, and grey and blue "Merrell" brand walking shoes. She also wore red, square-shaped eyeglasses and small hoop earrings. The investigation into Helene Martineau's disappearance was quickly taken over by the Sûreté du Québec, the provincial police force, due to suspicions of foul play. Friends and family expressed that it was entirely out of character for her to leave without contacting anyone, particularly as she was a devoted mother to her three daughters.
