On November 1, 1984, an eight-year-old boy named Sebastien Metivier vanished from the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district of Montreal, Quebec. That evening, Sebastien and his 12-year-old friend, Wilton Lubin, had attended a hobby workshop in the basement of the Tres-Saint-Nom-de-Jesus church. They were last seen together outside the church, a short walk from their respective homes. Sebastien was wearing a brown jacket, a blue and grey jogging suit with a patch on the right knee of the pants, and red "Cougar-style" boots. He was a young boy with light brown hair, brown eyes, a pierced left ear, a small scar on his right cheek, and a birthmark on his lower abdomen. Initially, the disappearance of Sebastien and Wilton was treated by police as a runaway case. This theory was fueled by several reported sightings of the two boys in the weeks that followed. However, this perspective tragically shifted when Wilton Lubin's body was discovered in the St. Lawrence River in early December 1984. The grim discovery put an end to the runaway theory and confirmed the likelihood of foul play. The same day Sebastien and Wilton went missing, another young boy, four-year-old Maurice Viens, also disappeared from a nearby neighborhood and was later found deceased. These events sparked widespread fear and a massive investigation into the string of child disappearances and murders. Over the years, the investigation into Sebastien's disappearance has explored various leads and suspects. In 1993, a convicted sex offender was considered a prime suspect in the case. This individual, who lived near both Sebastien and Wilton at the time of their disappearance, took his own life in prison the day before he was scheduled for a lie detector test regarding the case. In the years since, authorities have also considered the possibility that Sebastien's disappearance and the murders of other children in that period could be the work of a serial killer. Despite the passage of time and the lack of resolution, Sebastien's family has never stopped searching for answers, continuing to hold out hope for closure. The case of Sebastien Metivier remains an unsolved and heart-wrenching mystery, a stark reminder of a dark time in Montreal's history when multiple children were tragically taken. The disappearance is viewed not as an isolated incident, but as part of a series of abductions and murders that horrified the community and left a lasting impact.
