In the late summer of 2007, a 44-year-old man from Stratford, Ontario, named Rod Stephen Pavan seemingly vanished. The last time anyone is known to have had contact with him was on August 10, 2007. On that day, Pavan reportedly informed his landlord that he was planning to move to British Columbia. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as being 6'2" tall and weighing 194 pounds, with a medium build, a fair complexion, and brown hair and eyes. His intention to move west marked the last known communication from him, creating a mystery that would deepen in the weeks to come. More than a month after he was last heard from, a significant discovery was made in a remote, wooded area of Northern Ontario. On September 17, 2007, Pavan's grey 2002 GMC Sierra pickup truck, which had a green cap, was found abandoned. The vehicle was located north of Val Cote, near Shannon Lake Road, a considerable distance from his Stratford home. The state of the truck added a disturbing layer to the case; reports indicated that the vehicle appeared to have been torn apart by one or more bears, with its contents scattered around the vicinity. This unsettling scene prompted an immediate search of the surrounding area. Following the discovery of the truck, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) initiated an investigation. Members of the Hearst OPP Detachment and the elite Northeast Region Emergency Response Team were dispatched to conduct a thorough search of the remote area where the vehicle was found. Despite these extensive efforts, no trace of Rod Pavan was ever located. The police issued a public appeal for any information regarding Pavan or his truck, but the search did not yield the answers needed to resolve the case. To this day, the disappearance of Rod Stephen Pavan remains an unsolved case, leaving his family and investigators with unanswered questions about his ultimate fate after he set out from his Ontario home.
